Soroll Electrònic Installs an Interpreting Lab at Pompeu Fabra University
Soroll Electrònic has installed a simultaneous interpretation and sign language lab with the LABTRA tool at the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) is a European and world reference university in the field of Translation and Interpreting and has just implemented Soroll Electrònic’s LABTRA system to facilitate teachers’ work and students’ learning. LABTRA is the perfect combination of BOSCH’s technology and Soroll’s educational software exclusively designed for translators and interpreters.
The installation is already set up and is used by the degree students on a daily basis. We have fully equipped a total of 14 booths in the existing translation and interpreting labs. In addition, four of them have been set up for the use of sign language.
LABTRA is a simple system with multiple performance possibilities
First of all, LABTRA is a reliable and scalable system with truly exceptional performance capabilities. It allows working in up to 64 languages, using 10 real-time audio and video broadcast channels, 8 workgroups and up to 128 student computers. In this way, it facilitates complete remote control and monitoring, as well as the control and broadcasting of the webcams that future translators and interpreters use in their booths.
In addition, LABTRA is very easy to use without the need for extensive computer skills, allowing teachers to manage the classroom from its interface. Although students can work autonomously, the teacher can address them through their headsets, manage which activities they can perform and monitor the work of each student from their workstation. The teaching room is ready from the first minute and students can work immediately. On the other hand, students are in oral communication with the teacher and their classmates at all times, being able to talk to each other, share experiences, ask for help or work in groups or pairs. Thus, they have at their disposal an infinite number of didactic resources, activities and multimedia exercises based on the Internet, audio and video, adapted to their needs.
On a technical level, LABTRA uses natively the Ethernet-based DANTE digital audio ecosystem. Thanks to the use of standardized IP technology and Windows services, it can be integrated with virtually any analog or digital simultaneous interpretation system, as well as with IP-based audio solutions.
With this installation, more than 8 faculties of Translation and Interpreting have already trusted Soroll to accompany them in the learning of languages from all over the world. Do you want to know more about this system? Click here!
